What is Sexual Harassment?
Defining Sexual HarassmentSexual harassment is harassment directed at you because of your sex and workplace behavior that is offensive and sexual in nature. There are two primary forms of sexual harassment: "quid pro quo" and "hostile work environment."
"Quid pro quo" is when someone with a position of power over you makes unwanted advances and conditions some benefit (pay, continued, employment, etc) on your acquiescence. "Hostile work environment" harassment is behavior in the work place that is offensive and sexual in nature and pervasive. Both kinds of harassment are unlawful. It is also possible to experience both at once, if there is a sexualized work environment and you are facing pressure from a manager or supervisor to engage in an intimate relationship.
