How Often Do I Have to Pay Employees?
Understanding the Wage Act Requirements for Timely Payment of WagesThe Massachusetts Wage Act requires, for most employees, that they be paid weekly or bi-weekly. For employees who are considered bona fide executive, administrative, or professional employees under the overtime laws, if they request it they can be paid monthly.
In all events, payment must be made within 6 days of the end of the pay period, whether that pay period is a week, two weeks, or a month. This is important to get right, because if payments are late, your employees could assert a claim under the Wage Act and be entitled to triple the amount that was owed.
