What Are My Options if I Am Too Upset by Harassment to Go to Work?
Sometimes the behavior in the workplace is so pervasive that it causes the victim deep emotional distress. Sometimes people who are being harassed also have prior life experiences that make the situation more traumatic.
You should know that quitting is not your only option. You can ask for leave under the Massachusetts Paid Family Medical Leave law, if you have a provider who can document a mental health condition and your need for leave. You may also be able to file a workers compensation claim if you can document not only the condition but its causal relationship to behaviors at work. Mental health injuries are recognized under workers compensation laws so long as they are not the result of a "bona fide personnel decision."
