How Can I Find the Right Attorney to Represent Me?

Finding the right attorney to represent you if you want to bring a civil lawsuit can feel overwhelming.  A referral from someone with experience with the lawyer or firm is the best resource, but you may not know someone who has gotten legal help for your particular situation.

If you are searching on Google, be sure to read the Google reviews and make sure there are enough of them (20 or more) to be comfortable that they are representative.  Here are some additional things to consider:
  • Do they have experience in the kind of case you have?  If it is a discrimination, wage and hour, equal pay or other employment matter, you will want to be sure the attorney has handled enough cases in that subject matter area to be qualified.
  • Do they have staff other than attorneys?  Many solo practitioners are very good at what they do, but it can be difficult for one person to juggle multiple clients and matters while still giving each client the attention they deserve. A law firm with a strong support staff is usually in a better position to support you.
  • Are they clear with you about their fee structure and what the matter will cost you?
