Attorney Jenna Ordway Employment Law Cases

The following are some examples of the clients Attorney Ordway has helped to resolve cases arising from employment discrimination and wage and hour violations.

Employment Discrimination Cases

Our client worked at a public library and suffered from medical complications associated with obesity.  She experienced hostility and harassment at work that she believed was targeted at her because of her weight.

After bringing a complaint to human resources about discrimination, the behavior escalated and the client felt compelled to resign.

Attorney Ordway reviewed her file, assessed her claims, and filed a disability discrimination lawsuit against the town.  We then engaged the employer's attorneys in an early discussion of settlement and were able to reach a favorable settlement without the client having to go through discovery and litigation.

Attorney Ordway has also negotiated favorable severance agreements for other employees with disabilities who were terminated from their jobs.

Wage and Hour Cases

A teenage worker at a sandwich shop franchise was denied overtime pay and not paid at all for many hours worked.  Attorney Ordway filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General and filed a civil suit seeking multiple damages and attorneys' fees.  After motion practice at the very beginning of the case, we were able to achieve a favorable settlement for our client.

Another young worker had unlawful deductions made from his final paycheck.  Attorney Ordway was able to work with him and achieve an early settlement on his behalf.

A third client who delivered baked goods for his employer was classified as an independent contractor.  Because they did not pay him as an employee, he was not compensated for overtime, had to pay self-employment tax, and was required to bear all of the overhead expenses associated with the services he provided.

Attorney Ordway filed suit on his behalf and we were able to negotiate a favorable settlement for him after limited discovery.
