Need Help Understanding What You Need in an Estate Plan?
We have a FREE online workshop with one of our experienced estate planning attorneys to help give you the answers you need to get started on your road to peace of mind.
Estate Planning and Disinheriting a Family Member
- Challenges: In some cases, you may want to disinherit a family member, which requires specific language in your will. Spousal shares also deserve attention.
- Solution: Consult with an estate planning attorney to draft effective documents that reflect your desires while complying with Massachusetts law. Establish trusts to benefit children differently based on their unique circumstances.
Planning for Long Term Care
- Challenges: Long-term care planning is most effective when initiated before the need arises. However, late-stage planning is also possible.
- Solution: Consult with an estate planning or elder law attorney to discuss your situation and explore asset protection trusts and other options to safeguard your assets.
Estate Planning Considerations for LGBTQ+ Couples
- Challenges: Estate planning for LGBTQ+ couples is complex because it involves addressing unique family dynamics, varying legal recognition, and potential discrimination concerns.
- Solution: See advice from experienced estate planning attorneys who understand these complexities and can tailor estate plans to protect the rights and wishes of LGBTQ+ individuals and couples effectively.
Estate Planning With a Pet Trust
- Challenges: Ensuring the well-being of your pets is vital, especially for those with long lifespans or high maintenance costs.
- Solution: Massachusetts recognizes pet trusts, allowing you to allocate assets and name caretakers and trustees specifically for your beloved animals.
Estate Planning for Your Digital Assets
- Challenges: Digital assets have both sentimental and financial value, but are often overlooked in estate planning.
- Solution: You can include a plan for your digital assets in your overall estate plan, including naming a digital executor to manage them.
